A £350million bill for hiring healthcare workers in Northern Ireland is ‘unacceptable’, unions say

More than a third of a billion pounds that have been spent on interim and back-up health workers in Northern Ireland during the pandemic are ‘completely unacceptable’ and due to failed workplace planning, said trade unions.

The comments came after figures obtained by the Belfast Telegraph via Freedom of Information (FOI) requests show that throughout the Covid-19 crisis health trusts have spent more than £353m here sterling for agency staff.
