Civic Academy 101 | San Mateo County, California

Do you have questions about local authorities? Want to learn from department heads and other county heads? Then Civics 101 is for you!
the Civic Academy 101 is a free, nine-week program that meets one evening a week from 6-8:30 p.m. and provides participants with an in-depth look at county programs, services and finances. Participants are exposed to the workings of San Mateo County government, primarily through presentations by department heads. There are brief Q&As after each presentation. Please see the Fall 2021 schedule below.

Maybe you’re just interested in learning more about how our county government works, including the wide range of services it provides to residents. Or like many past participants, perhaps you’ll choose to move on to one of the many County Boards and Commissions, where volunteers like you work to advise the Board of Supervisors and improve our community! Or who knows, maybe your civic sense will one day inspire you to run for local elected office or join the incredible team of dedicated county government employees who serve our community.

Civics 101 is also an opportunity for us hear your point of view and learn from you. What are your priorities to improve the quality of life for everyone on the Peninsula? What do you care about? What are your ideas? We want to know!

Thank you to everyone who attends the 2021 Civics 101 Academy. Your curiosity, questions, and insights improve both the program and our county government!
