Dundee: the ALTAR group switches to employee shareholding
DUNDEE ALTAR Group’s marketing, design and digital agency has announced its transition to employee shareholding.
The Broughty Ferry-based agency, founded in 2013, said all 38 staff are now employee-owners. This follows his creation of an employee shareholding trust (EOT). The majority of the company’s shares are held within the trust.
ALTAR Group, formerly known as the Avian Communications Network, was formed when Avian acquired competing agency Blue Square Design. In 2020, the agency is renamed ALTAR Group.
ALTAR Group is made up of four firms; Avian – a design studio specializing in brand development and graphic design; Blue2 Digital – a web design, development and digital marketing agency; Ginger PR, a public relations and communications operation, and Kolabo – a digital research and development consultancy.
The company noted that its “team members” are as far away as London, Rome and Chicago. Customers include Walkers Shortbread, Highland Park Whiskey, Edinburgh Gin, Simon Howie, Gillies and St Andrews Links Trust.
ALTAR Group noted that its shift to the EOT model allows it to follow in the footsteps of 112 Scottish companies that have made the transition from legislation passed in 2014 to pave the way for employee ownership.
Scott McCallum, Managing Director of ALTAR Group, said: “We have been through some significant and extremely transformational changes over the past two years. At a time when most companies were closing the hatches, we have chosen to move forward with an incremental strategy, with each positive decision leading to the next, a strategy that will have lasting benefits for our company and all who are there. work, which are now all shared owners.
“We chose to invest in our people with multiple leadership appointments, we took bold steps and acquired another company, and we now trust the people who make this company what it is. In the end, we have become an extremely dynamic group of creative agencies whose future has been preserved for the benefit of their employees.
