Huneycutt attributes the hiring process and communication as keys to success
Like other insurance agencies who have been named the Best Agencies to Work For, The Huneycutt Group in Wilmington, North Carolina attributes its family atmosphere and regular group activities to promoting an environment where employees and owners can flourish.
But to get there, the agency first had to have the right family members.
“The recruitment process is very long. We have a serious selection process, ”said Chad Huneycutt, President and CEO of the agency which is this year’s winner of the Bronze Award for the South East. “We have to make sure the person is a good fit. This plays a vital role in the experience of our agency and the happiness of people.
The workforce shortage caused by the pandemic has made it harder than ever to find the right people for the rapidly growing all-line company, which markets insurance throughout Coastal Carolina and several other states. Once the pieces are in place, the agency regularly hosts events to help employees feel like they are all family, Huneycutt said. These include gatherings outside the office as well as office parties for birthdays and work anniversaries.
“We try to work hard and play hard together,” said Chad, who runs the agency with his wife, Tara, who is the director of marketing and also the owner of a clothing store near Wrightsville Beach.
The employees agreed.
“The main thing that stands out about our agency is the family atmosphere,” wrote one. “THG is supported by a large family.”
Chad Huneycutt started his career in banking but had long wanted to run his own business. It came in the form of a captive agency for a large carrier. When this carrier decided to reduce its presence in certain coastal areas, it enabled the Huneycutts to launch an independent agency in 2007. Since then, it has grown steadily, acquiring three regional damage agencies and one damage agency. title insurance. About 70% of the group’s policies relate to residential real estate, Chad said.
The Huneycutt Group has strived to keep up with technological changes, including cloud computing and internet-based telephone systems. So when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, “it eased the transition to people working from home,” Chad said.
“I have been supported as an employee working from home since the pandemic with everything I need,” one employee wrote in comments to the survey. “The flexibility my boss has shown has allowed us to adapt and become even better. “
For those who have chosen to return to the office, Huneycutt has installed generators to keep the lights on when thunderstorms cut power to the area.
Employees also noted the employee appraisal process and the incentive program.
“We have a fair review process for the producers and have a great opportunity to win,” commented one.
“There is a constant discussion about salaries and the ever-changing payment structures for the benefit of agents,” said another.
The agency is also involved in the community. Earlier this year, the team helped build a house with local Habitat for Humanity. “It was great to see that our organization is committed to both securing and creating places for people to live,” one employee wrote in the survey.
