Jinggoy Estrada wants to create 2 agencies for Filipino job seekers
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 22) — Incumbent Senator Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada plans to create two national agencies that will increase opportunities for Filipinos seeking employment.
Speaking to CNN Philippines’ The Source on Wednesday, Estrada said he will table measures that will establish the National Employment Assistance Center (NEAC) and the National Labor Data and Placement Center. (NMDPC) to help Filipinos who have been displaced by the COVID-19 pandemic. .
Estrada, who chaired the Senate Labor Committee for more than a decade, had previously introduced bills in the Senate for the creation of NEAC and NMDPC during the 13th Congress. Both measures remained pending at committee level.
“Maglalagay is a department under the Department of Labor and Employment, an agency… na parang [Public Employment Services Office] in all trabaho data, magre-register doon,” he said.
As part of Estrada’s NEAC bill introduced in 2004, the center “will provide employees and employers with basic information on local labor demand, skills, assessment and orientation, pooling of labor and orientation for retraining”.
The center will also provide a single action center that will facilitate the processing and documentation of all long-term employment.
Meanwhile, his NMDPC bill also introduced in 2004 will serve as a “manpower and skills database and local employment placement agency”, to work as a counterpart to the Administration Filipina Overseas Employment.
The two proposed agencies will operate under the DOLE.
Estrada also said he would work to strengthen the National Wage Productivity Commission and enact the Seafarers’ Magna Carta once he returns to the upper house.
He secured his return to the Senate after rounding the “Magic 12” with 12.1 million votes in the May 9 election.
He will work with his half-brother JV Ejercito, who ranked 10th with 15.8 million votes.
