Mid-Ohio Valley Agencies Receive Federal Grants News, Sports, Jobs

CHARLESTON – Nine grants were awarded to agencies in the region under the federal Justice Assistance Grants program.

Forty-two statewide projects received a share of the $ 1.2 million available to help state agencies, local government units and private non-profit agencies deliver programs that have a high probability of improving the functioning of the criminal justice system. Particular emphasis has been placed on multi-jurisdictional projects and statewide projects that aim to create or retain jobs in the criminal justice system in West Virginia, according to the governor’s office.

The money is provided by the Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Office of Justice Support and is administered by the Justice and Community Services Section of the West Virginia Division of Administrative Services .

The local projects were:

* Calhoun County Commission, $ 15,000 to support the post of Prevention Resource Officer assigned to Calhoun County College / High School.

* Doddridge County Commission, $ 30,000 to support prevention resource officers assigned to elementary, middle and high schools in Doddridge County.

* Town of Ravenswood, $ 15,000 to support the Prevention Resource Officer position at Ravenswood High School.

* Town of Ripley, $ 15,000 to support the Prevention Resource Officer position at Ripley High School.

* Pleasants County Commission, $ 15,000 to support the Prevention Resource Officer position at St. Marys High School.

* Roane County Commission, $ 15,000 to support the Prevention Resource Officer position at Roane County High School.

* City of Vienna, $ 15,000 to support the post of Prevention Resource Officer assigned to Jackson Middle School.

* City of Vienna, $ 25,000 for agent salaries to maintain a multi-jurisdictional working group on drugs and violent crime.

* Town of Williamstown, $ 15,000 to support the Prevention Resource Officer position at Williamstown High School.

* Wood County Commission, $ 15,000 to support the Prevention Resource Officer position at Blennerhassett Middle School.
