Pasadena Tournament of Roses Announces Winners of Third Annual Día De Los Muertos – Pasadena Now

On Saturday, the Pasadena Tournament of Roses, in partnership with the Mexican Consulate General in Los Angeles, announced the winners of the third annual Día de los Muertos art competition – a celebration of art and culture.

“The Pasadena Tournament of Roses is honored to welcome the Art Competition finalists to Tournament House, their art is awe-inspiring and inspiring,” said Tournament of Roses Chair Amy Wainscott.

“Gorgeous orange marigolds are such a big part of the 3,000-year-old Dia de los Muertos celebration, and although the Rose Parade has only been around for 134 years, we also have a special love for the flowers. Share and learning each other’s traditions builds community and together we support the next generation of budding artists.

Over 500 entries were submitted and over $7,000 in scholarships and cash prizes were awarded to winners in three age categories. Cash prizes will be awarded in the 4-8 and 9-13 age categories. The scholarships will be presented in the category of 14 to 18 year olds.

The submissions showcased Día de los Muertos traditions and artistry in many art forms, including drawing, face painting, poetry and more.

Entertainment and refreshments for the event were provided by Black Diamonds, Café Metzli, El Portal, Jardin del Eden and Paleta Cart Party.
