Interested in employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania? Here are some of the highest paying positions open now.

Amid record inflation and a shift dubbed the Great Resignation, many people entered the workforce hoping to get better conditions and a higher salary.

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry’s June jobs report, released Friday, the state’s unemployment rate is down from the previous month at 4.5%. Hospitality fields posted the largest 12-month gains, the agency said, adding 64,000 jobs.

For those wishing to enter the civil service, a government job could offer a stable salary with solid benefits.

Here are the eight highest-paying jobs currently open and publicly advertised for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania through the state’s online portal, as of July 22.

Salary: $163,522 to $251,913

Agency: SL Public School Employees Retirement System

Dentist openings

The following nine lists are for Department of Corrections dentists. We grouped them together.

Salary: $122,406 to $166,358, except the position in Lycoming County, which is listed between $119,414 and $162,309.

The description: “As a dentist, you will provide basic dental care to the prison population and perform all dental treatment, assist specialists in carrying out all treatment and related duties on site, and ensure that adequate security, tool control and toxic and caustic control are performed within the dental office.You will be responsible for consulting and referring detained patients to physicians, oral surgeons and other medical professionals.”
