US Department of Labor Hosts National Advisory Committee on Occupational Safety and Health Meeting
The NACOSH Heat Injury and Illness Working Group will hold its first meeting on February 25, 2022.
The United States DOL will hold a meeting of the National Advisory Committee on Occupational Safety and Health (NACOSH) on February 22, 2022. In conjunction with the committee meeting, the NACOSH Heat Injury and Illness Prevention Task Force will hold its first meeting on February 25, 2022. The draft agenda for the NACOSH meeting will include updates from OSHA and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, as well as discussions on OSHA’s efforts regarding the prevention of heat-related injuries and illnesses and risk-based safety.
Comments and requests to speak at the NACOSH meeting should be submitted here, the Federal eRulemaking Portal and refer to File No. OSHA-2022-0002. All comments must be submitted by February 15, 2022.
The NACOSH Heat Injury and Illness Prevention Working Group was established to provide recommendations on policy and policy development activities related to heat injury and illness prevention. . Members of the task force include union or employer representatives from a variety of industries, including construction, agriculture, and manufacturing, as well as representatives from NACOSH, an OSHA state plan, and a public health expert. Task Force members have in-depth knowledge and experience in identifying the factors that cause the risk of heat-related injuries and illnesses in the workplace, in addition to best practices and interventions to mitigate injuries and occupational diseases caused by heat. The task force will provide recommendations regarding OSHA’s guidance documents on the prevention of heat-related illnesses and evaluate stakeholder input to develop recommendations on potential elements of a proposed prevention standard heat-related injuries and illnesses. NACOSH advises, consults and makes recommendations to the Secretary of Labor and the Secretary of Health and Human Services on matters relating to the administration of the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1970. NACOSH is an open-ended, permanent advisory committee.
